“Then let me quaff the foamy tide, and through the dance meandering glide.” -Thomas Moore
This tree is in Griffith Park, somewhat close to my home. I shot the image a few weeks ago because I loved that the branches made a full circle. I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with it, and came up with this. Do I love it? No. I like the idea, but it’s nothing close to what I envisioned.
If I ever master the art of creating exactly what I imagined, I think I could become famous! 😉
Seriously though, that’s the perfect analogy for one of the things I’m learning… and trying very hard to grasp. I saw the perfect quote for it too;
“Things are as they are, we suffer because we imagined different.”
My recent weird experiences were things that were beyond my control, and I allowed them to affect me. The outcome was my hurt feelings, anger, and my negative mood. And trust me, we are ALL lucky that I didn’t write down some of the things that I was thinking.
The bottom line is that other people weren’t meeting my expectations. What is it that I was expecting? Well, I expected others to be cheerful, thoughtful, and kind! I realize it’s not too much to hope for, but I’m seeing the dangers of expectations, coupled with my own insensitivity in those moments.
My reactions and thoughts were centered on me. How DARE they be rude or grouchy. Don’t they realize that they are ruining MY show! Never mind that THEY might be having a bad day, or be suffering through some personal tragedy (for all I know)- DAMN IT– I expect you to be cheerful, thoughtful, and kind… and YOU are disappointing ME!
I’m exaggerating a little, but I’m trying to make a point.
I think the thing I need to work on is being confident and secure enough in my own peace, that I’m able to NOT take things so personally (and deeply), pray for the other people involved, and see if perhaps they have a problem or issue going on that they want to talk about, or need help with.
Just a thought. It sure beats sitting around sulking or fuming. 🙂
That’s all for now.
Peace and love everyone!!
